Henri Magne was born in France in May 1953 and lives in Andorra today. He began his motorsport career at the Formula 3 driving school in Magny-Cours in 1973 and was active in the French motorsport scene during the 1970s. In 1982 he took part in the Dakar Rally for the first time. He finished 21st in the overall standings and 1st in his category. In 1985 he was co-driver in a truck for the fast service in the official Mitsubishi team and finished ninth in the truck standings. His career took a leap forward when, in 1988, he finished second in the overall standings at the Dakar with Kenjiro Shinozuka in the car. He won the Dakar for the first time in 1997 with Shinozuka as driver and repeated his success in 2000 in the car of Jean-Louis Schlesser. He came through the finish in fourth when he drove with Carlos Sousa in 2003, and achieved the same position with Luc Alphand in 2004. The two of them, he and Sousa, also won the FIA World Cup title in 2003 and the 2004 European Baja Cup. After taking part in the 2004 UAE Desert Challenge in Andrea Mayer's car, he drove with Joan Roma for the first time at the 2004 Qatar Baja and then the 2005 Dakar Rally, followed by the next season, whose highlight was their joint victory at the Baja Spain Aragon.
