Summary (1986 - Paris - Algiers - Dakar)

The spirit of adventure and competition had long been the cornerstone of Mitsubishi motorsport. And nowhere was this spirit better demonstrated than at the Paris - Dakar rally, probably the most popular rally in the world. Since 1986 the Pajero was the master of such motorsport events, known as the most reliable and toughest machine in the world in such matters. Once again, this insane challenge meant thundering more than 14,000 km and 22 days through the African desert. With three successful years behind it, the Pajero this time started the race as one of the favourites. The Pajero managed to confirm the previous years' successes with third, fifth and seventh place in the overall standings, and to take the marathon victory for the fourth time in a row. It was not the glory of the previous years, but the Pajero once again proved its ruggedness and its endurance and established itself as the car to beat.
