The Evolution
General Information about the Evolution
At the 2001 international motor show in Frankfurt it could be admired for the first time: the Pajero Evolution. A car of tank-like proportions, 1980 mm wide, 4420 mm long and 1724 mm high, all at a fighting weight of 1950 kg. To get this behemoth moving, high tech in its purest form comes into play. A 3.5-litre V6 biturbo with 24 valves mobilises 450 hp and catapults the Evolution from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. From that mark the speedometer needle keeps climbing up to a top speed of 238 km/h. Downstream of the engine sits a six-speed sequential gearbox born of rally sport. The Evolution features permanent four-wheel drive and sophisticated differential technology. Tyres of the dimension 285/45R22 are fitted as standard, mounted on 22" alloy wheels. The Evolution is a thoroughbred two-seater and comes with numerous adventure accessories. A GPS as well as an extensive on-board toolkit complete the Sahara cruiser. Unfortunately, this beast can so far only be admired at the Dakar. When and whether the Evolution will become available to ordinary mortals remains an open question.
